Why Garage Grown Gear Is So Freakin' Cool!
If you don’t already know about Garage Grown Gear, I’m happy to be the first to introduce you to them!
I first learned about Garage Grown Gear on YouTube, as I’ve been following various backpacking channels for the past few years, and in the last year, I’ve seen many channels talking about how cool Garage Grown Gear is.
Though not exclusively, Garage Grown Gear is a company that features many products from various cottage industry, mom & pop type equipment makers such as Enlightened Equipment, for example.
Generally, Garage Grown Gear doesn’t feature an entire line up from any of the many companies that they highlight; rather, Garage Grown Gear usually highlights a curated selection of items from each of the companies that they feature.
So, if you want to check out a slew of companies that maybe you’ve never heard of before, Garage Grown Gear is a great place to go to see products especially suited to backpackers.
To be frank, I’m not really much of a backpacker myself, though I do get out on the trail every now and then. I guess I identify more as an avid camper who practices bushcraft, but nevertheless, over the years I have learned that other outdoorsy folks have a lot to teach me - including ultralight backpackers.
Sure, you can buy some of the gear that Garage Grown Gear sells at other retailers such as Backcountry.com or CampSaver.com, for example, but where Garage Grown Gear really shines is introducing you to smaller companies that the big retailers probably don’t know about and don’t carry their gear.
For example, I recently bought the Alpha Camp Socks by FarPointe Outdoor Gear as an ultralight pair of sleeping socks to keep my feet warm in my sleeping bag. Are you gonna find these at the big box stores? No. Either you’ve got to order directly from the company, in which case you might not get free shipping, or you can order through Garage Grown Gear, where you can combine items from different companies to meet the requirements for free shipping, which at the time of writing this is reasonably over $40.
Now I’m not a gram weenie, but sleep socks that weigh in the neighborhood of 25 grams just seems like a great product to take with me when the nights get cold!
But the Alpha Camp Socks by FarPointe Outdoor Gear are only one example of the cool products that Garage Grown Gear offers.
Have you ever heard of a company called CuloClean?
I hadn’t before finding them on Garage Grown Gear.
How cool is that?
I could go on and on about the cool stuff that I’ve found at Garage Grown Gear, but I think the best thing is for you to check out the Garage Grown Gear website for yourself and then do me the favor of leaving me a comment about what product you think is the most innovative, unique, or just plan sweeeet!
