Why The Decathlon Forclaz Trek 100 Down Puffy Jacket Is An Absolute No Brainer Of A Deal

Sometimes there is a huge gap between really great gear and mediocre gear, and often there’s a compromise involved somewhere. Do I save up for the really expensive item and just get by without it until I can afford it, or do I buy a cheap alternative first, which then makes it take even longer to save up for what I really want?

Well, sometimes there’s an inexpensive option that just makes me not even want to bother with the so-called “top of the line” products, and today I want to tell you about a puffy jacket that I’m absolutely thrilled with.

The Forclaz Trek 100 Down Puffy Jacket by Decathlon is an absolute steal of a value considering its quality and price point. No, it’s not a top of the line Ghost Whisperer 2 Down Puffy Jacket by Mountain Hardware available at Backcountry.com, but for most of us, paying another $200 or more for a Ghost Whisperer that weighs a few ounces less, but is also more fragile, just isn’t a good buy.

Take a look at the two pictures below…

This is the Ghost Whisperer 2 Down Puffy Jacket by Mountain Hardware, and it is a great jacket with 800 fill down. If I had a ton of money, maybe I’d buy one, but then I’d feel like I have to baby it’s 10D fabric. If you click on the image and buy one through Backcountry.com I’ll be grateful for the commission, but for most of you, I think that the next product is a better value.

P.S. - If you really, really want a Ghost Whisperer or Ghost Whisperer 2, and you’re patient, try hunting for one at steepandcheap.com, where you can often find overstocks of last year’s model at huge discount prices. For your convenience, the following link is set up to search for the Ghost Whisperer at Steep & Cheap!

Here’s the Forclaz Trek 100 Down Puffy Jacket by Decathlon, also with 800 fill down, but with a 15D material, which is 50% more than the Ghost Whisperer 2 at a minimal weight penalty.

Decathlon

Why do so many Americans not know about Decathlon???

I know, the pic to the left (or above, depending on your mobile settings) is for Decathlon Philippines, not Decathlon USA, but that hashtag is just perfect!

Now you tell me, which is better?

Click on the images above to check them out at their respective websites, compare the stats of each, and then leave me a comment about which you think is the better value.

I bet you can guess which I’ve bought two of for less than the price of one of the other…

I know a few people who have rocked the top of the line Ghost Whisperer 2 Down Puffy Jacket by Mountain Hardware, but at the end of the day, the Forclaz Trek 100 Down Puffy Jacket by Decathlon only has one downside to me, which obviously isn’t a deal breaker: the zipper pull is on the “wrong” side, which is annoying because in the United States we’re used to men’s zipper pulls being on the right instead of the left. Other than that one issue, to me, it’s just a no-brainer of a deal.

Sometimes you really don’t have to buy the top of the line product to get an incredible product at a very affordable price, and the Forclaz Trek 100 Down Puffy Jacket by Decathlon is probably my #1 pick in this category for very good reasons!

For full transparency, I am an affiliate marketer with Decathlon and with Backcountry.com, where the Mountain Hardware Ghost Whisperer 2 is sold; however, I paid for both of my Trek 100 jackets with my own money and love them so much that I bought a third to gift to one of my sisters.
