How To Make All-Purpose Cleaner

Herbal Courses from beginner to advanced

Over the years I’ve been asked about how to make cleaning products, and the cleaning product that I make the most is really quite simple to make - and VERY affordable. You’re going to need a few things, but after you’ve made the investment, you’ll be set for a long time.

First, you’re going to need Washing Soda and Borax. Buy a box of each, and you’ll be set for a good while.

You’re also going to need liquid castile soap. I prefer Dr. Bronner’s, and my personal choice actually is to use Sal Suds. Here are some options for you…

Next, especially if you’re dealing with grease, you’re going to want d-Limonene…

The last ingredient is optional, but frankly, I never go without it. You can find various versions of this “Thieves” essential oil blend through multi-level marketing companies, but I’ve been using this knock off for roughly 5 years and have been quite happy with it:

I prefer the “Thieves” blend from Nature’s Oils that I’ve linked above, but I’ve had good results with pine, spruce, various citrus essential oils, lavender, and tea tree. Click below to try some of the essential oils from Rocky Mountain Oils if you’d prefer to experiment!

RECIPE:

  • 1/2 tsp Washing Soda

  • 1 tsp Liquid Castile Soap (or Sal Suds)

  • 1 tsp Borax

  • 1 tsp d-Limonene

  • 2 Cups of Distilled Water

  • Optional - Essential Oils - 20 drops

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Place Washing Soda, Liquid Soap, Borax, d-Limonene, and essential oils (0ptional) in a 16 ounce spray bottle.

  2. Slowly add about 2 cups of warm distilled water.

  3. Cover the bottle and shake well.

  4. Use as needed around the house!

You could also double the recipe and use a 32 ounce spray bottle so that you don’t have to make this as often - or quadruple the recipe and make a full gallon to dispense into smaller spray bottles.

As you can see, there is an initial investment in the ingredients, but after you have them, imagine how many bottles of all-purpose cleaner you’ll be able to make!

If you got value from reading this, you might want to join my mailing list where I’ll share other recipes and such.

For full disclosure, I am an affiliate with Amazon, Nature’s Oils, and Rocky Mountain OIls. However, I’ve been making this all-purpose spray for about 5 years with these ingredients and stand behind them whether I’m engaged in affiliate marketing or not!
